On Wednesday I was delighted to find a white letter hairstreak in Whiteknights Park, the University of Reading’s main campus where I work. You could say that the prevailing weather conditions are unfavourable for further searching today (!) so I am unable to say yet whether this was a fluke one off or if we have a small but active colony. My only previous sighting of this species was on bramble flowers near the Pack Saddle Pub at Mapledurham, a well known (ish) spot for them in the Reading area.

A species that I’ve not seen yet! I wonder if I will see it before the end of the year, or if it will have to be a 2016 Wildlife Resolution?
