White Letter Day

On Wednesday I was delighted to find a white letter hairstreak in Whiteknights Park, the University of Reading’s main campus where I work. You could say that the prevailing weather conditions are unfavourable for further searching today (!) so I am unable to say yet whether this was a fluke one off or if we have a small but active colony. I’ve put up a quick post about it on the Whiteknights Biodiversity blog which you can read here. My only previous sighting of this species was on bramble flowers near the Pack Saddle Pub at Mapledurham, a well known (ish) spot for them in the Reading area.
